Sick Day (TDRR Chet Lorenzo short story)

He woke up, feeling his head banging.....like a drum roll at a concert..... He felt like his throat was the desert, like a sandstorm was going down. He turned over in his bed only to be met with pain in his joints. His pillow was like a pool, drenched in sweat....well that's how it all felt like to him, Lorenzo. Clearly he was sick, but heck chasing your step-brother home from school during a cold rain storm, probably wasn't the best idea and well here was the price he payed for...

Luckily it was Saturday, and another stormy day, so he wouldn't be missing out on too much. But man, still being this sick wasn't fun, luckily for him he was a fast healer. Suddenly he shot up from his sheets with a heavy sneeze, and a wave of snot flooded out. "Gross..." the teen thought and reached for his tissue box he kept on his night stand. As the teen blew his nose, he swore Chet would be complaining of him being too loud, but no respond. "Was he even in bed?" Lorenzo thought. Once done with his nose, the teen struggled getting up and looking up at the top bunk, and yep, that jerk was still there, sleeping away. Lorenzo noted how heavy Chet was breathing, like as if his nose was clogged too. Maybe he too was sick, but for now Lorenzo went back to his bottom bunk bed and decided to catch up on some needed rest.

Suddenly a knock was placed on their door. "Boys get up, breakfast is ready..." a women's voice called out. After getting no answer, the women entered the room. "Ugh mom, close the door...." Lorenzo complained as the light came through, blinding him. "Now come on boys, I said breakfast was ready." the mother, named Susie, said again. "But mom....*cough* I don't feel good...." Lorenzo said in a rough voice. Quickly the mother came to the bedside, looking over her step-son. "Hmm...you do seem pale, and my, my you're burning up!" She said as she felt Lorenzo's forehead. "Sigh...sorry son, looks like you got yourself a cold..." Susie said. She soon stood to check on her other son, Chet. "Honey come on now, time to get up..." She said. But Chet remained still, only giving off a cough and sniff. Then finally turning over facing his mother. "My, my guess you're sick too. You're as white as a ghost and you're also burning up as well." Susie said. "Oh my poor boys, so sick..." she said. "Well looks like breakfast will have to go from cereal to soup." She said as she went to the closet, getting some extra sheets. "Now you boys just stay in bed and rest, okay?" she said as she snuggled each boy in with another sheet. "Ugh...sure just as long as Chet doesn't bother me..." Lorenzo complained. He was replied with an ugh from Chet, clearly he was in more pain from the cold than his step-brother. "Now boys no fighting for today....well looks like you guys won't." Susie joked out and left to go start the new meal for the boys.

Lorenzo just laid there, staring at the wall across their room. "Man....this sucks...." he said out loud. He waited to hear something from Chet, but nothing... "Grr say something jerk!" Lorenzo's mind yelled. Suddenly he heard the bed above him creek and soon Chet leaped down from the top bunk, and quickly rushed to their bedroom bathroom, slamming the door shut. Lorenzo stared at the bathroom door, then to hear a wave of coughing soon followed with a watery sound. Clearly Chet was puking. "Oh boy...this is going to be a fun day..." Lorenzo said to himself. Soon a flush was heard and soon Chet came out, stumbling out the door and catching himself on a dresser. "Uhh...Chet...you okay?" Lorenzo asked. "Yeah....just....just weak....UGH!!" Chet yelled as he dove back into the bathroom, to the puking again... "Sigh, looks like I'll have to tell mom..." Lorenzo thought and go up from bed and headed to the stairs. He stayed there and yelled up them. "MOM! MOM! CHET'S PUKING!" he yelled in his horse voice.

The door to the basement opened and Susie headed down. "Okay, okay Lorenzo, now back to bed with ya. I'll check on Chet." She said as she followed her step son into their bedroom. Chet then came out, looking green in the cheeks. "Oh my poor baby...you get back to bed and I'll go get you some pepsi, the syrup in it should help your stomach." Susie said and rushed back upstairs. Chet stumbled back to his top bunk and Lorenzo just stood watching him fumble around. "Man you're sicker than me!" Lorenzo joked out, going into a laughing fit, then suddenly he bolted to the bathroom and puked in the toilet. Clearly laughing too much finally set off his stomach as well. Once done, Lorenzo came out to see Chet smirking at him. "Hmm fine we're both really sick...." Lorenzo said as he got back into bed.

So through out the day, Susie was a nurse, caring for her two sick babies as she said. Giving them all the care she could. Then by afternoon the puking soon died down and both boys just wanted to rest. Susie decided to go out to the store to get some medicine as the boys rested. Once she left Chet soon woke up, feeling a little better, at least the sickness in his stomach calmed down, but his nose was like a broken faucet, dripping like crazy. "Grr....stupid sickness!" his mind yelled as he looked for his tissue box, but clearly it fell to the ground when he was asleep. "Aww come on...." Chet complained as he plopped back in the bed. He really wasn't in the mood to get up and out of bed for a simple box of tissues....but his nose man....it was bad.

Suddenly the box was tossed up and landed right by Chet's chest. "What the?" Chet said as he looked over the bunk. "There you go jerk...." Lorenzo said in a tired tone, "Might as well help each other out while we're sick, BUT as soon as we are better we go back to fighting.....deal?" he added and held his hand up for a shake. "Ugh....deal...." Chet said and tried reaching his arm down for the shake, only to have more of a high five. Soon both boys were asleep again for the rest of the afternoon.

Soon night came and Lorenzo was tossing and turning, it was either too cold or too warm for his sick body. "UGH! WHY ME!" His mind yelled. Suddenly a wave of sickness stuck him from turning too much. The tan teen shot up and ran to the bathroom, turned the light on and dove for the toilet. He tried his best holding the seat up and his long hair. He already got some puke in his hair today, there was no way he was going to have that happen again. It was tricky though, until Lorenzo felt someone grab his hair and held it back. It was Chet, hearing his step-brother's gagging he came to help. After about a minute of vomit, Lorenzo finally could speak. "Ugh...thanks man..." he managed out as he washed his mouth out with water. "No problem, I mean we made a deal...." Chet said as he leaned against the door frame, ready to pass out of tiredness.

When heading back Chet couldn't even lift himself back up to his bunk. He was just too tired....and sick. Lorenzo noticed this and stopped his step-brother from trying and pulled him down to his bunk. "Here I'll let you sleep in my bunk, clearly you're too sick to lift yourself up..." Lorenzo joked out. Chet didn't even answer back and just flopped down on the bed. Then he grabbed Lorenzo's wrist and pulled him in the same bed, hugging him close. "Chet...ugh what the hell?" Lorenzo asked. "Hmm....thanks...." Chet said in a very tired voice and hugged his step-brother closer. Lorenzo didn't want to say it, but he liked this. It was better than them yelling at each other every second. Maybe they should get sick more often.

By the next morning Susie went straight down to the boys' room. She quietly opened the door and saw both boys snuggled in the bottom bunk, deep in sleep. "Aww how cute." She thought, she then closed the door, letting the boys get some more rest.
